Which carrier oil should I buy first?

Jojoba, if you want one bottle that does nearly everything. It's remarkably close in structure to your skin's own sebum, it suits every skin type, and it has one of the longest shelf lives of any carrier oil, so it won't punish you for using it slowly.

After that, pick for your skin: grapeseed if you're oily or hate a greasy finish, argan or avocado if you're dry, apricot kernel if you're sensitive.

How much carrier oil do I mix with essential oil?

When in doubt, go lower. You can always add more.

Will carrier oils clog my pores?

It depends on the oil and on your skin. Jojoba, grapeseed, and hemp seed are generally well tolerated by blemish-prone skin. Heavier oils like avocado are happier on dry skin, or blended down with something lighter.

There's no universal answer here, patch test and give it a couple of weeks before you judge.

Can I use a carrier oil on its own, without essential oils?

Absolutely, and plenty of people do. A good carrier oil is a complete moisturizer. The essential oil is optional.

How long do carrier oils last?

Roughly 6 months to 2 years, depending on the oil and how you store it. Jojoba is famously long-lived; rosehip seed is delicate and wants to be used up. Cool, dark, and tightly capped extends all of them.

If it smells sharp or a bit like crayons, it's oxidized, time to replace it.

What's the difference between a carrier oil and an essential oil?

A carrier oil is a fatty, mild plant oil pressed from nuts, seeds, or kernels, gentle enough to apply directly. An essential oil is a highly concentrated aromatic extract that must be diluted first.

Carrier oils moisturize and carry. Essential oils bring aroma and their own specific benefits, which vary from oil to oil. They're built to work together.

Are your carrier oils cold-pressed?

Yes, the oils we source are cold-pressed, which uses no heat and keeps their natural compounds intact. Heat extraction is faster, cheaper, and gives you a lesser oil.

Why did my oil go solid?

Cold. Some oils, neem in particular, solidify below about 70°F. It's not spoilage. Warm the bottle in your hands or a bowl of warm water and it comes right back.

Can I use coconut or olive oil from my kitchen instead?

You can, with caveats. Fractionated coconut oil stays liquid and works; virgin coconut oil solidifies and feels heavy; olive oil is nourishing but its scent argues with your blend. The oils we carry are chosen and refined for skin, which is why they layer cleanly under an essential oil blend.
