Often, acne breakouts are not about what you put on your skin, but what you put in your body. So watch your diet as there’s a good chance you might be giving into your food cravings and loading up on processed foods and sugar-laden cold blended drinks that can cause your skin to breakout.
In some environments, the heat and humidity is a huge contributor to clogged pores, however, dry heat can make people who suffer from extremely dry skin slather on moisturizer to combat the dryness. This again could interfere with your skin’s sebum levels as dense moisturizers can clog the pores.
And let’s not ignore the fact that oils from your hair and skin transfer onto the surfaces you’re in contact with (like your pillow), and transfer back onto your skin—with the added germs. Lastly, the dead skin cells accumulate and if not exfoliated, can literally create an unhealthy layer all over your skin.

Hemp seed oil. It is now considered the holy grail of skincare solutions.
Hemp is a distinct variety of the plant species Cannabis sativa. It is produced by cold pressing the seeds and then extracting the oil. Hemp was the first plant to be domestically cultivated around 8000 B.C. in Mesopotamia (present-day Turkey) and was grown for fiber and food. Due to its high content of omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids, hemp oil makes for an excellent natural emollient and moisturizer. It is especially useful for acne, as well as dry, tired or dehydrated skin and nails. It has anti-inflammatory properties which will help temper the irritated puffiness around your cheeks. Hemp oil works best for acne-prone skin as it is light,
therefore, upon application, it does not feel greasy or clog the pores. It restores the skin elasticity and increases water retention capacity in tissues. The antioxidants and protein improve collagen production to reverse the signs of aging as well.
Here’s what you do:
Simply wet your face with warm water. This will open your pores. Once you’ve done this, take a few drops of hemp oil and rub it into your skin thoroughly. Once you’re satisfied, simply pat dry with a towel.
How to store it:
It is recommended that it be kept in a cool dark place, so keeping it in your refrigerator is a good idea especially during the summer, but not required. This is because it contains a high amount of polyunsaturated fats and oxidizes fairly quickly. (The only drawback about using it for skincare is to go to the kitchen to get it, but so worth it!)

***Garlic Hemp Oil Salad Dressing***
- ¼ cup hemp oil
- ¼ cup white wine vinegar
- 4 cloves garlic
- ⅛ tsp pepper
- Fully whisk all ingredients together.
- Let sit for one hour to allow the flavor to fully manifest.
- Shake well and drizzle! Enjoy!
