The base chakra, located at the tailbone, is said to be where the sense of security is located. To balance this area, use patchouli, myrrh, rosewood, thyme, or frankincense oils. The sacral chakra, which houses creativity and sexuality, is in the lower abdomen; for this chakra, use sandalwood oil as an aphrodisiac and jasmine, rose, and cardamom oils for enhanced creativity.
Next is the solar plexus chakra, which is in the stomach. This area is connected to self-confidence and can be balanced with oils like grapefruit, juniper, cedarwood, and black pepper. Fourth is the heart chakra, one of the most important areas; rose oil can be used here for its romantic properties, along with geranium, bergamot, jasmine, and lavender oils.
Moving up the body, the throat chakra is considered the center of self-expression. Chamomile, peppermint, and eucalyptus oils are all used for this chakra, helping cure ailments like sore throats and congestion. The third eye, located on the forehead between the eyes, is the sixth chakra; this is the center of intuition. Frankincense, sage, and lavender oils can be used in this area to soothe headaches and clear the mind. Finally the crown chakra on the top of the head can be balanced with frankincense — one of the oldest essential oils — which enhances spirituality and helps bring clarity.
After you’ve chosen which oils you’d like to use, don't forget to blend them with carrier oil before applying. Lie down and apply the chosen oil to the chakra, massaging the oil into your skin while relaxing and setting an intention for your healing. If you are balancing only one chakra, once the oil has been absorbed, you can meditate or simply breathe slowly and evenly, allowing the oil work its magic.
