4 Essential Oils That Smell Like Citrus...But Aren't!

Citrus aromas are very popular scents and there are many essential oils that come from citrus fruits, like Grapefruit, Mandarin, clementine, or Lime. Did you know there are a few oils that have that distinct citrus aroma, without actually being from citrus? Check out these four essential oils that smell like citrus... but aren't!
Litsea
Litsea is a delicious smelling essential oil that has sweet, citrusy aroma with subtle green notes. This oil is said to be calming and relaxing as well as deodorizing. It blends well with citrus oils like Bergamot, Sweet Orange and Grapefruit, or floral oils like Geranium, Chamomile, or Ylang Ylang.
Citronella
Many people know the citrus lemon-like aroma of Citronella from all those bug repellent products or citronella candles at the store. Citronella does have great bug repelling qualities, but did you know that it isn't a citrus? This oil actually comes from a grass-like plant! Try blending it with oils like Geranium, Rosemary, Bergamot or Pine.
Elemi
Elemi has a beautiful smelling soft lemon aroma with floral notes. It has been used since the egyptians and is best used in a diffuser. While this oil has a lovely citrus aroma, it is actually steam distilled from the gum or resin of a tree! This oil blends well with other oils like Rosemary, Myrtle, Frankincense, Lavender, or Cinnamon Leaf.
Lemongrass
A popular scent in many candles and body care products, Lemongrass has a citrus sweet aroma. It even sounds like its a citrus, however, Lemongrass is actually steam distilled from the leaves of a grass, related to Citronella. It shares many of the same properties, like bug repelling. It blends well with many oils, try it with Grapefruit, Lavender, Lemon, Patchouli, Rosemary, Clary Sage, or Black Pepper.
